About Amy Vee and The Virtues
Amy has spent the last three years working as an independent recording artist and soloist writing and performing music in the vein of insightful and ethereal indie rock. The fruits of these efforts include an acclaimed 4 track EP titled “All In Me”. Amy has donned various musical guises, leading her to perform with various artists including dance/funk act On, who in the past have played most major Australian music festivals and won Artist of the Year in the 2003 1223 ABC Newcastle Music Awards. In 2004 and 2005 Amy won an award at the same event for Contemporary Popular Music, proving her versatility as a writer and performer. She has also collaborated with internationally renowned artist and producer Groove Terminator, which saw her perform to sell-out crowds as the support act for Moby’s Australasian tour early 2003. The Future – In 2003, Amy decided to fuse her talents with that of three proficient and versatile musicians to form a new musical collective known as “Amy Vee & The Virtues”. Gary Arnold (FREQchild, Brat) took on lead guitar duties, while drummer Russell Crawford (Ultimo) and bassist Mat McColl formed the ideal rhythm section. In late 2003, the band hit the studio to start working on their first EP. Over only 5 days, the EP was recorded and mixed by ARIA award winning engineer Anton Hagop and final production handled by Australia’s no.1 mastering producer Don Bartley. Titled “quintessence”, this recording emphasised the raw energy that exudes from this unique and accomplished collective. The track “Still Waiting” was voted Best Acoustic Rock song at the 2003 MUSICOZ awards. Most recently, the band took out first place in “Expose Yourself” as judged by industry representatives from Harbour Agency, MGM, EMI, Shock and more. This has led to a recording of the single “Searching For Somnia” with renowned LA producer Roger Sommers and released by MGM, which will later feature on the bands first full-length album anticipated for release around March 2006. In December last year, Amy Vee & The Virtues won Artist of the Year in the 2005 MUSICOZ awards, as well as several other awards. These little windfalls as well as the enduring support of fans have secured a place for the Amy Vee & The Virtues as a relevant and prolific music act for many years to come.
