About Alex Maresh
After 7 years of mixing, Alex Maresh evolved from sounds like Kraftwerk, Tall Paul and others to modern techno sounds with different influences. After changing not so different styles of electronic music in his sets, trying to catch but also to assimilate and understand many influences from different parts, his sound remains, at least for now, in the techno area, a very wide one and permanently opened music space. As a DJ, Maresh was always found of the technical aspect, of the technology that could help him to manipulate the sound. He tried all the mixing ways available of that period, and searched something that was suited for he’s need. Later, as technology evolved, is more and more into loops and effects, more into combining 2 or more tracks simultaneously, trying to define it’s own idea of mixing. This kind of electronic music, techno in general, is repetitive music, sometimes groovy sometimes cold, but its loop music that combined and twisted can express a lot of different feelings even using the same loops/tracks. You can always express something new, even if you are using something old over and over again for example, so why to simply pass from one track to another in this kind of music, when you have so many new and different possibilities to mix. Why waste your time with beat matching, when in this time you can create and recreate a track, combine it with something else or search a hypnotic voice for instance. Because of the abundant and more accurate mixing technology now days, the modern DJ or if you want the digital DJ, when is making use off all this stuff, can be classified in a new category between the “Live act” and “Dj set”, and this will be “DJ act”. In this sense, Maresh is using in his setup, besides vinyl’s, a Xone 3D mixer that can give a DJ all this possibilities. He’s DJ acts are more into monotone and hypnotic rhythms with dark minimal techno bass lines and wired sounds, going up and down, from a small BPM with euphoric and groovy sounds to more dark and aggressive beats. Till present, Maresh played in a lot of underground parties with DJs like Dilo, Katou, Jorge Savoretti, Sven Lito but also warm-up for Timo Maas, Guido Schneider, Miss Kittin, Chriss Liebing and others. He played in locations like AXE Villa (Ibiza, SP), Studio Martin (Bucharest, RO), Gossip (Bucharest, RO), Kado (Bucharest,Ro), La Mania (Constanta,Ro), Oscar (Cluj,Ro), XS (Constanta,Ro), Imperium (Constanta,Ro), Electrees festival (Iasi,Ro), Medi…Craiova,Ro), Chill Out (Sibiu,Ro), Heat (Oradea, RO), Lords (Oradea, RO), Traffic (Oradea,Ro) etc. As a producer, first tracks are taking shape, alone or in collaboration with Romanian producer Mihai Popoviciu and here we can mention some names like Don’t Talk, Crowded Place, Work0.1 or a remix for a track of Mihai Popoviciu that will appear at a Spanish label, Subconce. Alex Maresh also started in 2005 a brand in Romania called STEREOevents (www.stereoevents.ro, www.myspace.com/stereoevents) together with Vlad Vancia. Under the name of STEREO a lot of underground minimal techno parties were made in Romania, managing to attract more and more party people, and also some very good new underground dj’s like Thommy (www.myspace.com/thommystereoevents), Radum (www.myspace.com/radumatei) or Bodgan (www.myspace.com/conceptchild).
