About A Cat in the Oven is Not a Cake
A Cat In The Oven Is Not A Cake began life in late 2005/early 2006 when 5 childhood friends realised they held similar musical influences and decided to combine to create a wonderful project, A Cat In The Oven Is Not A Cake. The members of A Cat In The Oven Is Not A Cake (often abbreviated to ACITOINAC by their fans)include: James Hartt Ben Collier Leanne Richards Patrick O'Callaghan James W Brown ACITOINAC is not actually the first musical project for most of its members. James Hartt and Patrick O'Callaghan had previously been guitar players for infamous 'Az Man' bands in the early-to-mid 00's. Ben Collier made a special guest appearance for an Az Man band gig, playing the tambourine on a cover of Jet's 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl?' Leanne Richards had multiple musical successes before joining ACITOINAC, primarily her role as Cello player in Elissa and the M2s. Since then, Leanne has enjoyed more success with her Cello and other instruments and has collaborated with Elissa on more than one occasion since Elissa and the M2s ended. The band were prolific in their songwriting and ideas in the early months with regular band practices and meetings. They also built up a significant following on the internet through sites such as MySpace despite not actually having released any material. They even received praise from Fred Bang! of the band, Les Incompetents who told them: ""Your band is the best band in the world." The band finally released a track that had long been performed live but never recorded, entitled 'Whistle by Ben Collier'. The track was met with a great response from the band's fan base and, since then, two remixes of the song have been released by the band: 'Whistle by Ben Collier Remix by Ben Collier' and 'Whistle by Ben Collier Remix by James Brown' also met with great acclaim. Recently the band have gone on somewhat of a hiatus due to band members being scattered around the country. Two members currently reside in Brighton whilst one is in Leeds, one is in Manchester and the other is at Next. There are plans for the band to meet again in the future to release their eagerly anticipated debut album 'An Album of Unfortunate Events.' In Spring 2008, ACITOINAC collaborated with Brighton-based musician, Jason Fry who contributed the third remix of the band's popular hit, Whistle by Ben Collier. The track was released at the end of May and was met with critical acclaim.
