About 2D
The duo 2D, composed of Dian Pramana Poetra and Deddy Dhukun, was a significant presence in the Indonesian music scene during the 1980s and 1990s. Both members were already recognized as songwriters and performers before joining forces. In 1987, they released their debut album, Keraguan, which quickly brought them into the spotlight. The title track became a major hit, despite its resemblance to Michael Franks' Antonio's Song. Other notable songs from the album include Oh Mengapa, Kadangkala, and Asmara Rindu, the latter featuring singer Malyda. The album also included two instrumental tracks, one of which was a jazz rendition of Begadang, a classic by dangdut singer Rhoma Irama. Their initial success was surpassed with their second album, Masih Ada, released in 1989. The title track, while reminiscent of Lea by the band Toto, captivated audiences and became one of the duo's biggest hits. Other standout tracks include Tak Ragu Lagi and Sementara Berpisah, once again featuring Malyda. Masih Ada solidified 2D’s position in Indonesian pop music and was later covered by other artists, such as R42 and Warna. After a period of hiatus, the duo made a comeback in 1996 with the album Sebelum Aku Pergi. Despite high expectations, the album failed to achieve the same commercial success as its predecessors, possibly due to shifts in the music industry and a lack of promotion. This album marked the last official release of 2D as a duo. Dian Pramana Poetra and Deddy Dhukun's collaboration left a lasting impact on Indonesian music, particularly in the pop genre with influences from jazz and soul. Their compositions and vocal harmonies continue to be remembered and cherished by fans to this day.
