About 黄英

Huang Ying (黄英), born January 28, 1989 in the countryside of Sichuan, China, is a popular folk, pop and rock singer and actress active in mainland China. In 2009, the 20 year old amateur singer entered "Super Girl", a TV singing contest hosted by Hunan TV, and unexpectedly won 3rd place, capturing the hearts of viewers and being regarded as a token of the "Chinese Dream". Huang Ying is credited with sparking an unprecedented surge of interest in folk music among the younger generation in China, bringing a modern youthful spin to the genre. Ying first started singing at the age of 5, and entered the entertainment business in 2009, competing in the popular TV singing program "Super Girl". Ying captured the attention of the public with her innocent, bubbly personality and powerful singing voice, despite having no professional training, unlike most of the other contestants. Ultimately finishing 3rd, Ying signed a contract with eeMedia and released her debut single "Azalea" in 2009. The following year, Ying released her debut EP "Little Huang Ying, Big Sun" (小黄英大太阳), which was an immediate success. The title single, "Big Sun", showcased Ling's modern take on folk music, blending elements folk and rock, and even contained rapped verses. In 2011, Huang Ying made her first foray into acting, starring in the period documentary series "Youth Accompaniment". Later that year, she would contribute to the "Phoenix Totem" Soundtrack with the single "Foolish Dream". 2012 would see Ying's return to the music scene full time with the release of her second EP "Splendid Journey" (灿烂的行走) in June of that year, lead by the sweeping single "Faraway Melody", a duet with rock singer Wu Tong (吴彤), which was described as an ode of the unspoken but tangible passion between lovers. Also in 2012, Ying participated in her first feature film "Only Walk", based on the inspiring real life story of Chen Yurong. Not only acting, she also sung the movie's main theme song "Undistinguished Mother".
