About 激楽隊

激楽隊 (Geki gakutai; "super music band") was a Japanese session band (which turned into a side project) from Tokyo in 2003. They had "reunion" gigs in 2007, 2011 and 2012 and remain inactive. Members: ** Vocals: kyohsuke (根崎料栄/Kazuei Nezaki; LA VIE EN ROSE (ラヴィアンローズ) as Kyousuke (狂介) → Usagi (兎-usagi-) → retired) ** Guitar: 矢口雅哲 (Masaaki Yaguchi/ミヤ/Miya;MUCC/ムック) ** Drums:大島剛 (Tsuyoshi Ooshima; ATOM (アトム) → KALIMERO (カリメロ ) → JULLY (ジュリィー) , → Usagi (兎-usagi-) → NONPERFECTION BEE STORY, VERY BERRY → ROMAN Kyuko (ロマン急行) ** Support Bass: 一木 明仁 (Akihito Ichiki/AKi; RAM∞REM → SID (シド) , AKi) ** Support Bass: 愁 (ShuU; ギルガメッシュ/girugamesh) Former members: ** Bass: 吉田匡辰 (Masatatsu Yoshida, THREE9) Biography: Geki gakutai's music is a mix of nu metal, punk and has influences from pop rock and Shouwa era music. It was formed a session band. They released one mini album in May 2005 called "Tokyo". They had "reunion" gigs in 2007, 2011 and 2012 and remain inactive. Yoshida later left the band, and live support was provided by Aki from SID (2007 and 2011?) and Shuu from Girugamesh (in 2012). Miya handled the first two tracks, and Nezaki handled the remaining tracks. With these two driving the sound, they're determined to achieve a thick, heavy sound. However, the melodies exude a nostalgic feel, making it a very distinctive sound. Since the band is led by Nezaki, there's no doubt his sense is strongly present, but I think it wouldn't feel out of place even if you played it for someone who only knows MUCC. Rather than being a case of one person coordinating, the two of them, who are from the same hometown and have developed a close friendship, seem to understand each other's overlapping strengths. The mini album was released around the time MUCC released "Houyoku," and perhaps inspired by the production of this album, the atmosphere feels similar. http://www.geocities.jp/gekigaku/
