About 岡北有由
Ayu Okakita 岡北有由 is a little known but extremely talented singer, songwriter and guitarist with a very distinctive indie rock style somewhat akin to Alanis Morissette, P.J. Harvey or Joni Mitchell. Born in Fukuoka, she went to university in Tokyo, and spent some time studying in the U.S. keeping a "Basement Diary" which later developed into one of her 6 albums. Around 1999, she started recording albums producing and pressing them herself till she eventually landed a contract with Universal Music Japan. Her songs watashi わたし and Juukyuunenme no asa 19年目の朝 have been used as the themes of different TV programs, but perhaps her best known work is Haiiro Love Song 灰色ラブソング, a piercing tormented rocker about her confused feelings about the relationship she is in.
