About (sic)boy

(sic)boy (シックボーイ; born in 1998) is a Japanese rapper and alternative hip hop/emo rap/loud rock artist from Tokyo. Biography: He is known for blending hip-hop with elements of emo, alternative and loud rock, plus melodic flow influenced by J-rock. His sound doesn’t sit in one genre but moves fluidly between styles and moods. He was born in 1998 in Tokyo and grew up with a strong interest in rock music, first drawn to bands like L'arc~en~ciel in childhood and later absorbing a broad range of sounds from metal to emo before turning seriously to making his own music. During university he started producing original tracks while active in a band circle. His earliest project under a different name, Sid the Lynch, produced an EP called NEVERENDING?? on SoundCloud in 2018. Tracks he uploaded in 2019 began drawing attention for their raw intensity and genre-blurring energy, building an underground following and catching the ear of producer KM. In 2020 he released his first album as (sic)boy, CHAOS TAPE. The album drew on Tokyo’s chaotic energy and refused conventional categories, a sound some critics and listeners called “genre Tokyo.” Songs like “Heaven’s Drive” and others from the project fueled strong streaming success and led to recognition on curated programs such as Spotify’s RADAR: Early Noise 2021 and Apple Music’s Up Next. He followed that with vanitas in 2021, enlisting both Japanese and international collaborators, and then in 2023 released HOLLOW, which featured artists such as Vernon (from SEVENTEEN), nothing, nowhere. and Daichi Yamamoto, continuing to expand his sound. Across these records and his live performances at major Japanese festivals, (sic)boy has built a reputation for emotional directness, stylistic fearlessness and a refusal to be pinned down. He's currently signed to add.some labels.
