Since emerging on the latin music scene in the early seventies, Rafael De Jesus has been recognized by salsa aficionados, as well as his peers in the music industry, as one of the premier vocalists in the contemporary latin field. Rafael's vocal talent is derived from a combination of sheer raw power and melodic subtlety; this intriguing blend stylistically sets him apart from other singers in the genre and has contributed greatly to Rafael's universal acceptance. Rafael De Jesus' trademark of vocal extensions and marvelous range are the result of long, arduous hours of training. One example of this training can be heard on a song recorded with Luis "Perico" Ortiz which went on to become a latin music standard by the name of "De Patitas". Additionally, Rafael has also went on to do various radio and television vocal commercials in the industry. A native of New York City and of Puerto Rican descent, Rafael has contributed as background vocals to several other recording latin artists such as Eddie Palmieri, Jose Alberto "El Canario", Victor Manuelle and Tego Calderon to name a few.
