Winnipeg Boyz are a pair of central Canada's most prominent rappers. Holding down the frozen prairie capital city of Winnipeg for over a decade now, Charlie Fettah and Jon C are taking their rugged brand of unfiltered inner city poetry to new heights. Consisting of two thirds of Canadian hip hop powerhouse Winnipeg's Most, the Winnipeg Boyz had initially made their mark on the Canadian scene with their own Heatbag Records imprint and later furthered their brand by joining forces with infamous rap label Battle Axe Records after being cosigned by Madchild himself. The duo have amassed an incredible online presence with legions of followers on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud. Their Heatbag Records YouTube channel is one of, if not THE, most viewed Canadian hip hop channel on Youtube with just under 8 million views including nearly 2 million alone for the video single "All That I Know" which features both MC's. Their latest video "A Better Place" is already nearing two hundred thousand views. Winnipeg Boyz are no stranger to media coverage with various television appearances as well as press in numerous notable magazines and websites. They have been on TV in features or interviews on CBC, CTV, APTN and SHAW. Legendary Canadian news program "The National", on CBC, dedicated a 13 minute piece to the duo. Already, in 2015 with more TV appearances to come, Winnipeg Boyz are featured on APTN's new show titled "Nagamowin(The Song)". Canada's most prominent magazine, Maclean's, featured the Boyz in 2010 as the main focus of their full spread titled “Straight Outta Winnipeg" and both MC's were quoted in the national magazine for a second time in 2015. Other publications they have graced the pages of include The Winnipeg Free Press, The Winnipeg Sun and The Uniter. The summer 2014 edition of New Tribe magazine had Winnipeg Boyz as the cover story and they have been regular winners in the year end "Best of Winnipeg Awards" by local culture magazine Uptown. A source of inspiration for fellow aboriginals and inner city youth, Winnipeg Boyz have risen from one of Canada's most notorious hoods in Canada’s North End of Winnipeg, Manitoba to become a voice for their peers. Their popularity at home is unrivaled and has reached cult status. They rap about what they have truly lived from being hustlers out of necessity to maturing and championing the rights of their people in a quest for better times, all the while never forgetting their roots or the neighborhood they still call home. After one listen to their debut album you will absorb the essence of who the Winnipeg Boyz truly are; gritty and unapologetic. The Boyz pack venues in Winnipeg with an adoring fan base that sing along to their hooks and know every word to their singles. The duo possess a commanding stage presence that mixes the ferocious energy and lyricism of Charlie Fettah with the smooth storytelling and raspy delivery of Jon C. At the most recent Aboriginal Peoples Choice Awards, they opened the night up with a breathtaking performance dedicated to the enormous number of missing aboriginal women that was aired live on APTN. The duo sported t shirts stating "Where Are Our Women" and urged fans to push for an inquiry into the alarming number of missing aboriginal women in Canada. Later that night they were honored with awards for "Best CD" as well as "Best Group or Duo". Their award winning debut album "Ab Initio", Latin for "from the begining", has charted on college radio, garnered several awards and even been played on various major market radio stations. The album features production from Juno award winning producer Stomp and has guest appearances by Madchild from Swollen Members and Krizz Kaliko from Tech N9ne's Strange Music imprint out of Missouri, USA. They followed it up with a mixtape available through their website (winnipegboyz.net) and datpiff.com titled "No Strings Attached" that features their unique lyrical stylings to create hype for their sophomore album slated for 2015. 2015 will see the release of their second official LP "Digital Warfare" which features a more matured chemistry, producing their best work to date. Their style is an aesthetically pleasing mix of street poetry, lyrical skill and melodic hooks. They posses the unique ability to stay true to their underground hip hop roots while at the same time bringing the type of beat selection and melodies to the table that ensure mainstream success. Winnipeg Boyz have become an integral part of the Winnipeg music scene, doing various shows featuring local talent, helping organize, host and judge local battles and giving back to their community through fundraisers. They have become important members of their community by promoting unity and uplifting their peers.
