Taken from the "hiphoplinguistics" review (http://www.hiphoplinguistics.com/underground/2007/08/kidmental-amateur) Review - "Amateur": After a busy week of the hustle and bustle, I enjoy quiet times alone, so that I can meditate and visit a different state of mind; mental cleansing you can say; a time where I block worldly thoughts and visit the imaginative part of my brain to see what great things it might bring me. As Kidmental states, this is the time to "get away from the usual," and his music definitely does that. It is easy for any of us to fall in line, go with the flow or follow the leader. Many of our lives follow a pattern modeled after the lives of our family, friends or people who we never met but admire; pretty much the environment that surrounds us. It takes great minds and souls to break away from the usual and do something different. Kidmental does just this on Amateur. Wordsmith is the best title for this emcee. With a style reminiscent of Lupe Fiasco, with a taste of Consequence, Kidmental has a backpacker flow and delivery that could spill over into the mainstream scene just as the artist who have preceded him. On Amateur, he proves that he is the antonym of the title and presents quality lyricism that any fan of his style of hip-hop would enjoy. At times, he tends to flow awkwardly outside of the rhythm but overall I found this album enjoyable to listen to. The moments where Kidmental shines the most are on B.e.a.utiful, a laid back track with an old school feel speaking on getting away from the usual and Digital.rmx, a no cut-card battle rap style song directed at wack emcees with production inspired by some classic Wu-Tang selections. - ScholarMan ------------------------------------------------- Kidmental Bio: dob: 04/12/82 Youngstown, Ohio inspiration: badd music and innovative music, both enkourage me to bkome better.
