About Arch Enemy

Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Halmstad, formed in 1995 by guitarist Michael Amott and vocalist Johan Liiva, both formerly of Carnage. The band originated as a project involving musicians from several established metal acts, and its line-up has included members associated with groups such as Carcass, Armageddon, Mercyful Fate, Spiritual Beggars, The Agonist, Nevermore, Eucharist, and Once Human. Arch Enemy has released multiple studio, live, and compilation recordings. The band’s debut album, "Black Earth", was recorded in 1996 at Studio Fredman and released by Wrong Again Records. After its release, Arch Enemy signed with Century Media and issued "Stigmata" in 1998, followed by "Burning Bridges" in 1999. Around this period, Sharlee D'Angelo joined as bassist and Daniel Erlandsson became the drummer. During touring for "Burning Bridges", the bass position was temporarily filled by other musicians. In 2000, Johan Liiva left the band and was replaced by German vocalist Angela Gossow. The first album with Gossow, "Wages of Sin", was released in 2001. The band subsequently toured internationally and appeared at major events, including the "Japan's Beast Feast 2002" concert. Their next album, "Anthems of Rebellion", was released in 2003 and incorporated additional vocal arrangements. In 2004, Arch Enemy released the EP "Dead Eyes See No Future", which included live recordings and cover versions. In 2005, the band released "Doomsday Machine". During this period, guitarist Christopher Amott temporarily left the band and was replaced by other guitarists before returning in 2007. That same year, Arch Enemy released "Rise of the Tyrant", which entered the Billboard 200 chart and became the band’s highest-charting release at the time. The band toured extensively in support of the album and recorded the live release "Tyrants of the Rising Sun" in 2008. In 2009, Arch Enemy released the compilation album "The Root of All Evil", featuring re-recorded material from their early albums. The band continued touring internationally. Their eighth studio album, "Khaos Legions", was released in 2011, preceded by the single "Yesterday Is Dead and Gone". In 2012, Christopher Amott again left the band and was replaced by Nick Cordle. In 2014, Angela Gossow stepped down as vocalist and was replaced by Canadian singer Alissa White-Gluz, formerly of The Agonist. Gossow remained involved as the band’s manager. The album "War Eternal" was released later that year. During the same period, Nick Cordle left the band and was replaced by guitarist Jeff Loomis. In 2016, several current and former members formed the side project Black Earth, performing material from the band’s first three albums. Arch Enemy released their tenth studio album, "Will to Power", in 2017, preceded by the single "The World Is Yours". The band continued to tour and released the compilation "Covered in Blood" in 2019. In 2022, they issued their eleventh studio album, "Deceivers", following several singles including "Deceiver, Deceiver", "House of Mirrors", and "Handshake with Hell". The band toured extensively in support of the album. In 2023, Jeff Loomis departed on amicable terms and was replaced by Joey Concepcion. In 2024, Arch Enemy released new material beginning with the single "Dream Stealer" and announced their twelfth studio album, "Blood Dynasty", which was released in 2025. The band undertook multiple tours in support of the album, including performances in Europe, North America, and Mexico. In November 2025, Alissa White-Gluz left the band. In February 2026, Arch Enemy introduced American vocalist Lauren Hart with the release of the single "To the Last Breath". The band is scheduled to continue touring in 2026.
