About Zen Debris
Electronic, organic, ambient, dark world and tribal driven by self-exploration and spirituality, Zen Debris has created a unique and original fusion of music that is nothing short of transcendental. Zen Debris draws their inspiration from sources as diverse as Coil, Dead Can Dance, and Lamb, as well as traditional Yoruba/Congo ceremonies, Middle Eastern dance, and desert and city imagery. Zen Debris is comprised of three core members residing in Poughkeepsie, NY, and was originally conceived by solo musician James Cathey in 2002. In autumn of 2004, Zen Debris was joined by Catherine Lafuente. A year and a half later, sound engineer David Shetterly officially joined the trio. While Shetterly's main focus is the mixing and mastering of studio albums, he also doubles as a backing vocalist and percussionist for live events. The band's first album, Residual Vessels, was completed in August of 2005. The Prodigal EP, a limited-edition, six-song CD, was distributed in December of 2005. Contributors to Zen Debris also include J.D. Sexton on bass and synths, who was one of the main composers behind the first few albums, and Paul Collins on guitar.
