About Y Fly 2 London

Y Fly 2 London was a popular original rock band from NJ that performed all over the NY/NJ Metropolitan area. The original members were Chris Hopp on lead vocals, Nick DeStefano on lead guitar, Rob Beaupre on bass, and Bill McCloskey on drums. Their critically acclaimed debut EP "Just Say No" was recorded at Media Sound Studios in NYC and was produced by Scandal keyboardist, Benjy King. The EP sold thousands of copies and received great reviews in Billboard Magazine, The Newark Star-Ledger, The NY Daily News, The Aquarian and many other respected publications. The record featured not only Benjy King. The record also had many special guest performances from many top NY musicians such as James Lewis, who has been a featured performer for several years with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Donnie Kisselback, who has performed with Alice Cooper, Rick Derringer and Joe Lynn Turner, and Southside Johnny's Horn Section featuring Mark Pender, Ed Nanion, Stan Harrison and Ed Spengler which can be still seen nightly on "The Conan O'Brien Show". The record was incredibly produced for a local band project and their fans loved it. The band performed regularly at The Cat Club, CBGB, and The China Club in NYC and The Dirt Club and The Show Place in NJ. The band filmed a video for their anti-drug anthem "Just Say No" in the center of Times Square in NYC. The video was shown all over the country on several TV shows and the song charted for several weeks on the CMJ charts. "Just Say No", also appeared on WDHA's Jersey Rock V with Joe Lynn Turner, The Smithereens, and Glen Burtnick. After the "Just Say No" EP, the band replaced bass player Rob Beaupre with Don Miguel and keyboard player Mike Danodio joined the band. The band then went into the studio to record the follow up to the successful "Just Say No" record. The "Stranger In My Bed" album was not recorded in a major recording studio like the first record and the band in general was not happy with the recording of the album. The record did contain two of the bands most popular songs."Come Fly Away" which was the bands only ballad, and "The Lanes" which was very popular amongst the bands following. After "Stranger in My Bed", drummer Bill McCloskey left the band and was replaced by Mitch Gerber. Y Fly's music got heavier & darker and the band went into the studio to record what would be their final album "Die For The City". At that point, drugs, alcohol, and ego's were all starting to take its toll, but it did not get in the way of one of their strongest recordings yet. With "Die for The City" Y Fly 2 London's songwriting and performances were at its best. The "Die for The City' recording showed the band working as a total team effort. The band filmed a video for "Die For The City" which aired on MTV in 1988. Unfortunately, shortly after the release of "Die For The City", the band started to unravel and by the end of 1988 they performed their last gig at Studio 1 with Trixter. This site is a tribute to one of the best local hard rock bands that NJ has ever seen. Enjoy!
