The Woodstock Music and Art Festival was a rock festival held in New York from August 15 to August 18, 1969. It was free and more than 500,000 people from all over the world attended on the peace bringing festival. For many, it exemplified the counterculture of the 1960s and the "hippie era". Many of the best-known musicians of the time appeared during the rainy weekend, such as Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Joe Cocker, Credence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and many more.
