About Wasting Days
There is always a band that comes around to open the eyes of those that define music as if substance and quality is something you learn or choreograph. Wasting Days is breaking into a new boundary of excellence and evolving music beyond its foundation and level at where it stands now. The revolutionary quartet is Gil Comeaux on bass, John Quick on guitar, Shane Magie on drums and Matt Elliot, vocals and guitar. In late 2002, originally known as Paperface, the band started as a three piece in Russellville, Arkansas. Comeaux, Elliot and Magie made up the initial members of the band. The three pioneers realized shortly after, they needed more of an edge on top of what they already created and welcomed guitarist and long time friend, Nik Knight, from Leslie, in 2003. The band was complete. The creative process continued as Paperface wrote for what would eventually be Wasting Day’s debut LP, Ignorance and Atrophy. However, in late 2004, Magie left Paperface and left fans to wonder what happened to the band that created such a buzz. Meanwhile, Paperface reformed as Wasting Days and brought John Quick on drums. Ignorance and Atrophy was recorded soon after Quick’s arrival and Wasting Days went on tour to support their debut album. By 2006, the band started writing material for the second album. In July 2006, progress came to a halt when tragedy struck and guitarist, Knight, was found dead in his home. As the healing process began, the band debated whether or not to continue. Needless to say, in April 2007, Wasting Days reformed with Magie back on drums and Quick on guitar. The band has responded with a new album, Beautiful Shame, which reflects the bands struggles with life. Yet, strength, wisdom and creativity shine through their music like angelic themes. The bands sophomore release is a rare form of tuned expression. Lyrically, Beautiful Shame colors the canvas with the main theme of love, loss, and reflection while being reinforced musically by the bands amazing ability to breathe climactic emotion into each chord so that the listener can feel the intensity before the first word is ever spoken. It is a lament to mortality, and a refreshing reminder of all the qualities that make us human; anger, happiness, love, sorrow…… life. The sound of Wasting Days can be described only as ahead of the game in that the music is beyond anything on the charts presently. The sound is incomparable but is influenced by greats such as Pink Floyd, The Doors and Led Zeppelin to Tool, Deftones and Alice in Chains. The elements of creativity and quality shine like no other when listening to Wasting Days. The band has put music into an artistic realm that few know how to create, but many can appreciate.
