About Waiting For June
Waiting For June is an alt-rock and animation project based outside Cambridge, England, created by Southern California songwriter, cartoonist and filmmaker Chris Bauer. Blending heavy guitars, emotional storytelling and a fully illustrated cinematic universe, the project bridges two realities: the physical band and a stylized 2D shadow-city known as the Imbroglio District. After relocating to the UK, Bauer teamed with long-time collaborators Harley Whiting and Kevin Goldthorpe. The trio played across iconic London venues — including The 100 Club, The Troubadour, The Dublin Castle, and The Scala for Noel Gallagher’s aftershow — gradually evolving the band into a hybrid of music, animation and narrative worldbuilding. Taking cues from Radiohead’s emotional depth, Audioslave’s grit, My Chemical Romance’s urgency and the visual spirit of Gorillaz, Bauer developed a parallel animated universe filled with neon-lit back alleys, industrial tunnels, underground bars and strange, magnetic characters. This world became known as The Imbroglio District, anchored by its warm, amber-lit underground bar The Copper Fox, where the bartender May watches the District’s stories unfold. In 2025, Waiting For June launched The Transmission Series, a collection of short animated films released alongside the band’s evolving music. Each episode expands the District’s lore, introducing figures such as a wandering red demon, a sharp-edged bassist, a mysterious briefcase-carrying stranger, and various denizens of the Copper Fox — all designed in a gritty, Gorillaz-inspired aesthetic that parallels the emotional tone of the band’s upcoming songs. Waiting For June’s new music — currently in development — continues to merge cinematic alt-rock with atmospheric worldbuilding. The project embraces a dual-reality format: raw acoustic demos growing into full-band arrangements, mirrored by animated narratives that deepen the mythology of the District. As the Transmission Series progresses into 2026, the project continues to expand its interconnected universe, inviting listeners deeper into the warm-timber rooms, rusted alleyways and flickering neon corridors of the Imbroglio District — a world still unveiling its secrets one episode at a time.
