Tom Waits and the Kronos Quartet conspired during a concert held by the foundation "Healing the Divide" in 2003 to produce four haunting and extraordinary pieces, augmenting Tom Waits' well-known style with classical musical instruments. They performed Way Down in the Hole, God's Away on Business, Lost in the Harbor and Diamond in Your Mind. "Healing the Divide" is a beneficial effort called into life by Richard Gere in 2001. It seeks to "develop forums in which public health, social development and cultural preservation can thrive".
