About The Shitkicks
After playing in heavy and punk bands throughout high school Rob and Pickle, mates since the very early years, decided for both organisation and band politics reasons to start up a duo. The pair had been playing together for a year or so in punk band Friends Of Ron (www.myspace.com/ronsfriends), and formed The Shitkicks in early 2005. Practising in Pickle's bedroom, quietly so as not to disturb the neighbours and so as not to "dent the skins", they started out playing covers of The Black Keys, The Vasco Era and the like. They took up a style of the all-the-rage bluesy rock n roll but an influence from their punk days still previaled. The Shitkicks wrote a couple of gnarly songs that year and recorded them at school. In early 2006 Rob bought a really cool amplifier that is orange. The Shitkicks saw this as good enough reason to relocate to Rob's house where playing loud is permitted as all the neighbours are old and thus deaf anyway. At this time they decided it would be a good idea to learn some rad old school rock n roll songs. This was fun. Alcohol was consumed. The band has progressed rapidly since, picking up gigs here and there around Hobart - even playing as part of an Amplified festival showcase! (not as awesome as an achievement as I just made it sound). But they now have their own CD entitled "Introducing... The Shitkicks" so you can buy it off the guys or send them a message asking where you can get it! It's really cheap! (www.myspace.com/theshitkicks)
