About The Lyricist Law

It all began for The Lyricist Law, born Kevin Kelley, when he lived in New York. "You had the stoop and the courts and not much else... I was short so basketball wasn't exactly my favorite thing out of the two. Now on the stoop alot could be done, shit almost everything was done on the stoop. So that's when i started freestylin', battlin', rhyming in general. I remember when I won my first battle...I must have been like eleven years old. The older kids, Charles and his brother willie, Big Mike, Kenny "Eagle", Had us young bucks paired off into crews and we had a rhyme fight behind the school. I never forgot that feeling.. when Willie and Havier said i carried my team and smoked the rest. Granted at the time my rhymes we're fuckin garbage... like "1,2,3 on the M-I-C, no one can rhyme like the K-E-V" But i mean i was battling other lil kids so.. it was dope. After that, anytime i had a chance to get that feeling, i grabbed it." Later on he moved to Florida... "there were no more stoops.. no more rhymin for a while.. and nobody gave a shit that I could rap." Long story short he kept on rhymin' over the years, battle after battle, cypher after cypher. And he never wrote a track. His close friends have been bugging him for over seven years now to write something down. Stop free-styling and record something. Even people he didn't know, that would see him at a show, would come up and ask if he had a collection of pre-written rhymes on cd, and he told them str8 up.. "I don't have writtenz I just rhyme." Every time the same response "You should seriously write and record." And every time he told them, "Maybe, I don't know... it's a pipe dream, therefore I don't chase it." So now we have come to the present. He has been rhyming for about 15 years now, self professed he wasn't very good until his late teens. But with time content broadend, skills sharpened, and experience contributes immense amounts to what makes a person whole. The same goes for their music and he has decided to take the leap. "So now, to all my friends, I hope you're happy with what I put out there. To everyone else that's never met me, saw me at a show or a party, I hope you can take something away from what I've done, good or bad. And to all of you, stay tuned cuz now that i've started this shit I'm gonna see it through until the end."
