The ensemble has been active since the mid 1980s; although its concerts and recordings are rare the critics enthusiastically applaud the artistic effects of each such event. So it has been with the album “Legendarne Ząbki” (“The Legendary Ząbki”), a collection of revolutionary recordings from the 1980s, and the “FROMM” recorded three years ago with a guest appearance by improvised music stars Grażyna Auguścik and Zdzisław Piernik. The core of The Intuition Orchestra consists of Ryszard Wojciul (musician, musicologist, journalist and musical manager related to the rock, classical as well as jazz music scene), Bolesław Błaszczyk (eminent cellist, pianist, composer and performer known for being a part of an extremely popular Grupa MoCarta), and a drummer Jacek Alek. The album “To the inside” features such outstanding jazzmen as Marcin Olak on guitar, Maciej Szczyciński on double bass, and Monika Szulińska on percussion. As Ryszard Wojciul writes in the album liner notes, “Despite our excursions into diverse aesthetic zones the spirit of our music has remained unchanged. Albeit rough and wild, our own ‘avant-garde’ style is one unafraid of consonance. Our playing together relies on listening to each other and feeling together, on searching for space and inspiring each other”. Although the compositions emerged from collective improvisation, this album’s narrative is both diverse and very consistent. The rhythmically intense moments precede and follow melancholic melodies, then shift into an almost free-jazz pursuit of the essence of sound. Sophisticated listeners will find here many a reference to jazz, folk, and classical music. The set of recordings also includes the composition recorded with Jacek Malicki, member of the legendary “Grupa w składzie” which in the 1970s pioneered the intuitive music in Poland.
