About The Derylik Brothers
The Derylik Brothers is the musical collaboration of Matt "Doc" Derrick and Greg "Waz" Wasylik: a brotherhood not bound by blood, but rather forged in the fire that is the independent music industry. The Brothers survived the early years of their music career - lean, mean, road-warrior days spent stuffed seven-deep in old vans touring regionally and often times playing for near-empty rooms, and rarely for folding money - only to somehow come out the backside grounded, stoic, and immeasurably appreciative of not only what they have, but also of what so many countless others have done before them. Both Doc and Waz have proven themselves as live performers, playing hundreds of shows across the Midwest, East Coast, Mountain West, and Canada. In past projects, the Brothers have headlined music festivals in front of tens of thousands of listeners, and played Industry Showcases in Cleveland, Toronto, and New York City. The Brothers know how to throw it down on a live stage, and past bands such as Ed's Speakeasy, Happenstance, Sugar Pill, Clyde, and Papa Junior were praised for their musicianship, energy, showmanship, diversity, and connection with the crowd. Each Brother brings with them a laundry list of influences that have shaped their careers: Doc has been heavily inspired by Soul and Blues singers, as well as modern singer-songwriters such as J.J. Grey, Ray LaMontagne, and Dan Aurbach. Waz grew up to the sweet tones of David Gilmore and classic '70s rock, followed by a baptism of grunge in the mid '90s and a fascination with genre-bending artists such as Gomez. They have both also harbored a long love affair with classic big band jazz. That being said, for The Derylik Brothers, where they've come from is less important than where they see themselves going. With youthful pipe-dreams of overnight celebrity status in the rear-view mirror, The Brothers have matured and come to focus on what really matters to them: Songwriting for the pure love of the song. Doc and Waz are deeply fascinated by nearly all genres of music, and are constantly listening, learning, and evolving. The Brothers are enormously proud of their upcoming self-titled debut album, "The Derylik Brothers", which is peppered with the sounds of classic Stax & Motown Soul, Jump and Delta Blues, Be-Bop, Doo-Wop, Honky Tonk, Bluegrass, Southern, Garage, and Swamp Rock, blending into a piece of true Americana that reaches from New Orleans to Chicago, Memphis to Austin, Detroit to Kansas City, and even the Trans-Atlantic, worldly flavors of Trenchtown and Abbey Road - Pure, simple, honest songs embodying real-life stories and real-life people. As The Brothers move forward, they hope not only to live up to this first release with their future body of work, but surpass each song with the next as they continue to grow as artists. The Derylik Brothers have no designs on re-inventing music. They cannot, nor do they wish to, start a trend, ride a passing fad, or be packaged into a neat little genre-specific box. For Doc and Waz, it is really all about continuing to learn and explore music, expressing their love of music and gratitude to those who came before them in humble homage by writing songs that challenge pop culture's conventional conceptions of what a band should "sound" like, breaking all rules of genre, embracing a century of American History, and truly transcending the separation amongst all walks of life on this great big planet we all call home. No pretension, no agenda, no compromises or shortcuts, just songwriting for the sake of a good old-fashioned story, a sweet, sweet melody, a head bobbing, foot tapping, can't take your smile away beat, and most importantly, the love of all song.
