About The City Music Project

The City Music Project is a well-balanced hybrid of electronic and traditional musical components, based out of Philadelphia, PA. Their sound travels through elements of reggae, hip-hop, house, dub, progressive rock, trance, latin, funk, drum & bass, dancehall, and world music with artistic integrity and progressive force. At its core are singer/songwriter Frank Cervantes and producer/DJ Golden Spiral (Adrian Palashevsky). Their live performance integrates vocals, live instruments and studio/performance-based production hardware and software, incorporating elements of video art, live dancing, and lighting, along with cameo appearances from a number of different guest musicians involved. They perform with a degree of control over their music that is both structured and open-ended, with a sound that is unmistakably original, yet inviting and recognizable. In the studio, TCMP makes use of Frank’s prodigious songwriting and lyrical abilities, paired with Golden Spiral’s rich musical and rhythmic sound-scapes, supported by an almost communal level of participation from friends and colleagues. The City Music Project released their self-titled debut EP in the spring of 2010, and have been developing a repertoire of new music since, building their live show and preparing for their first full-length release soon to come. True versatility and creative freedom underline this EP from start to finish. Having broken free from the confines of definition and convention, they’ve positioned themselves on the cusp of great potential and seemingly endless possibilities. Frank Cervantes, a singer/songwriter and guitar player from Moorestown, New Jersey, was the front-man and creative force behind the indie/rock band, The Once Was. His years of experience performing with The Once Was, and as a solo singer/songwriter, have brought him considerable critical acclaim, along with a level of confidence, skill, and energy essential to his role in making The City Music Project’s live show so explosive. Despite his preoccupation with the technological side of music-making, Adrian is a classically trained musician who studied violin and guitar since childhood. He attended Temple University and graduated in 2006, with a focus in sound engineering and music production. For years, he produced hip-hop music until deciding to move on and further push the boundaries of his sound and technique. The City Music Project is a direct result of this decision.
