The Associated Press

About The Associated Press

The Associated Press is a California-born-and-bred duo consisting of Natalye Childress and Jake Corbin. The two initially met while staff members of a newspaper, where they discovered they shared an affinity for punk rock and journalism. It wasn't until a few years later that they decided to combine the two interests by playing music that catered specifically to the journalism world. Childress, a former copy editor and current stickler for linguistic orthography, pens the lyrics, which are all based on rules of The Associated Press Stylebook. She sings and plays the ukulele (and also has a solo project, natalelye), but sometimes throws a guitar or saxophone into the mix. In addition to playing drums, Corbin is the publicity mastermind behind the band, and responsible for coming up with the driving ideas behind The Associated Press, ranging from song titles to appearances, as well as refining the members' images, both on and offstage. He also skateboards a lot. However, the group isn't limited to just these two. The Associated Press draws from a pool of musically-talented friends and former colleagues with only one rule: they all must have degrees in journalism. It is this system which provides for an unpredictable and ever-changing lineup. While the music isn't inherently punk rock, the two are heavily influenced by simple melodic progression coupled with smart lyrics. "Stylebook 2010" is the group's first album, which is set to be released by the end of the year. The artist Joseph Alan Fears was previously incorrectly linked to this name but he is a solo artist who does not perform or record under this name. To visit his page, click on his name above.
