About The Sheffields

The Sheffields were a short-lived British beat group of the 1960s, based in - indeed - Sheffield, United Kingdom. Originally known as The Vampires they won a 1963 Beat Contest, impressing judge and producer/songwriter Tony Hatch, who secured them a deal with Pye Records, under a new band name. Their debut 45 featured a pair of original compositions, followed by a cover version of the R&B standard 'Got My Mojo Working', featuring frontman John Alexander on mouth harp. The band's third and final offering was 'Bags Groove (Skat Walking)' b/w 'Plenty of Love' in early 1965.
