About The Laundry Shop
The driving creative force behind The Laundry Shop is Front man/Singer and Songwriter Steve Robinson. Steven gained huge international critical acclaim with his last band, Angels of Mons. During this time he won awards and played around the world as well as supporting the likes of Good Charlotte and Snow Patrol. The band tragically broke up under the weight of “Next Big Thing” hype. The following months proved to be a dark time having become disillusioned an frustrated with the music industry. Undeterred, Steve soundproofed the Laundry room of his rented house with his brother and built a recording/rehearsal studio. Still without a band, he drafted in Swedish Denise Roxenhamn to play the bass, later joined by drummer Andy Hamilton. The direction of the music instantly took off where his last band ended. Beautiful and haunting whispered vocal harmonies set against a grungy onslaught of slacker guitar hooks. The two elements of their songs are constantly at war with each other, melodic escapism and a bombastic rhythmical realism. Next came the job of recording and producing the Debut Album, “Grandstanding” while the band played all over the country. They toured with The Coronas, Ham Sandwich, Stanley Super 800, Future Kings of Spain, Lazarus Soul, The Flaws etc. During this period one of Steve’s compositions, “All these Highs and Lows” was picked up by Discover Ireland to promote their summer campaign. The band released it as their first single and it went top thirty and received a five star review in the Irish Times. The Song received a lot of attention and is still a huge live favorite for the band. Their debut, “Grandstanding” has been described as “One of the most exciting and breathtaking records to come out of Dublin since Whipping Boy’s” (Heartworm). After completing the recording and engineering of the 11 songs which make up the band’s debut Album, “Grandstanding” Stephen passed the tapes on to Industry Veteran, Marc Carolan (Muse, Snow Patrol, JJ72) who kindly returned from engineering Muse’s monumental Wembley performances to put the finishing touches to “Grandstanding”. The album was finaly mastered by the legendary Ted Jensen, (Metallica, Greenday, Slipnot, etc) Delighted with the results, the band set up their own Record Company, “Medicine Ball Records” to release all their future music on. The following months saw the band developing their explosive live set, playing electrifying shows across the country. Highlights being, appearances at Castlepalooza and Indie-pendence festivals over the summer. The next few months will see the band release “Grandstanding in Ireland, the Uk and Japan” The Laundry Shop will also be touring continuously over the coming months.
