About Tamsin Carroll
Tamsin Carroll was born Tamsin Georgina Carroll on February 13 1979, in Sydney Australia to Peter and Patricia Carroll. Today, she still holds the record as one of the youngest people to join the Melbourne Theatre Company ensemble, doing so at only 19 for her role as Little Red Riding Hood in the acclaimed Sondheim musical "Into the Woods", in which her father played the Narrator. Tamsin followed "Woods" with a starring role in the 1999 Sydney production of MTC's "A Little Night Music" where she understudied three of the lead characters. After this, she took time off to do a sound engineering course, so she could learn the fundamentals of the behind the scenes aspects. The major turning point in Tamsin's career so far was in 2000 when she was cast as Marianne in the musical "Shout!". Her rendition of the song Crazy in particular was one that brought many praises around Australia. Not only did it bring praises but it also resulted in Helpmann and Mo Award nominations. Tamsin's career continued to rise, when at only 22, she was cast as Nancy in the Australian production of Oliver! Since the role of Nancy is usually played by someone older in age, the character was actually made younger to accommodate Tamsin in the role. It was also her performance as Nancy that brought her the clean sweep in Australian theatre, which is winning the Helpmann, Green Room and Mo Awards all in the same year. A feat which has only been accomplished by few Australian performers. In 2003 Tamsin followed up her successful tour of Oliver! with two Production Company roles in the limited Melbourne seasons of Hair and Bye Bye Birdie. 2004 marked the return of Tamsin to the Sydney Theatre Company. She starred in the two productions that opened the new Sydney Theatre at Walsh Bay. As Peter was the lead in both productions, "Harbour" and "The Republic of Myopia", it also acted as a family reunion as they had not appeared on stage together since MTC's 1999 production of "Into the Woods". In 2005 Tamsin returned to the stage in two productions, first playing Rizzo in SEL's Grease: The Arena Spectacular, followed by Isabella in Bell Shakespeare Company's production of "Measure for Measure". Tamsin received more critical acclaim as Dusty in the new musical "Dusty: The Original Pop Diva". When it comes to an industry which is considered one of the most gruelling, Tamsin knows the rules: "If you do get the work, you work hard and you're grateful for every minute.''
