About THAT WAS THEN
That Was Then is a hardcore band from Memphis, TN. The music is fast and at times almost melodic, inspired by the greats of old (Gorilla Biscuits, Warzone) and their fellow contemporaries from Memphis (Clenched fist, Bury The Living) that are rewriting that scenes musical history to this day. Despite its rich musical heritage, Memphis has never been known as a mecca for hardcore and punk. Nevertheless, over the years there have been a number of individuals that have banded together to keep Memphis hardcore active. That Was Then is composed of such individuals. Originally formed by singer Joel Gulledge, bassist Jason Smith and guitarists Matt Strini and Brian Wallace, TWT has soldiered on through the last three years, releasing two 7s (Its All Been Said Before on Best of Times Records, and a split with fellow Memphis band Cut the Tension on Keepitcore Records) and continuing to play their unique brand of hardcore locally, regionally, and on a few nation wide tours. Member changes that might have proved crippling to many other bands were seen through, and the band emerged just as good, if not better, than ever before. With the addition of new vocalist Jeremiah Chandler and guitarist Adam Hite, as well as the newest drummer, Rob O Neal, TWT went to Studio P in Memphis to record the CDEP entitled Troublemakers. It is a unique collaboration of the different incarnations of That Was Then. Lyrics touch on several subjects, such as the personal struggles of day to day life and outspoken political views on the rapidly deteriorating state of the modern world. The band shares members with Dead City, Pezz, and While I Breathe, I Hope.
