About Shleu-Shleu
Shleu-Shleu, the Haitian forerunner of what in NYC became Ska-Shah #1, was one of the great kompa bands. Their combination of swing and delicacy was one reason, but from this distance what stands out from that pre-funk era is their strong Creole flavor, not just in the melodies but in the wonderful solo sax, a style no longer heard.
