Sabahat Akkiraz has spent her life excavating the vast Anatolian musical landscape for melodies and folkloric tales to “expose the wealth of Anatolian culture” to the world. In doing so, she has captured the attention of adoring fans all over the planet. Sabahat was born 1955 in Kangal/Sivas and started her singing career at only 13 years of age. In 1982, she recorded her first album at the age of 28. Since that time, Sabahat has recorded over 20 albums, all national best sellers. She is very much in demand for live performances. Her voice is incredibly smooth and dynamic, as is her stage presence. Sabahat surrounds herself with highly talented players and brings forth stunning music full of passion and grace. She has blended the rich musical tradition of Turkey with the progressive sounds of modern western instruments to create beautiful tapestries of song.
