About Rondoe
Like long time collaborator Ron Ron, Rondoe is a rapper hailing from "The Fifties", a name given to an area of Kansas City, Missouri's East side between 51st and 57th streets. Rondoe represents the 5700 Garfield block at Kansas City's 57th street. According to an interview with StarStatus Radio, he started rapping at the age of 13 but actually began to sell his music from 2002, following which he'd start the label "Chuby Throwback" with friend Myron "Chuby" Evans, releasing a label compilation and then mixtape before putting out his first solo album Ridin Shotgun in 2005 which featured Ron Ron and even Bay Area and eventual Thizz Entertainment star Rydah J Klyde. Following the passing of "Chuby" Evans, the label would also be known as "Keep It Chuby Entertainment", from which Rondoe would release a series of mixtapes over commercial, local and Bay Area beats, Im Not Playin 1 in 2006, I'm Not Playin 2 and the original Dats On Everything, the CDs again featuring Ron Ron and established Kansas City luminaries such as The Popper, Tay Diggs, Cash Image and D-Locc Da Chop. 2009 would be the breakthrough year for Rondoe as far as his reputation as one of Kansas City's most popular rap artists, first with the release of mixtape Still Trippin Off Old Shit, featuring both old school and commercial beats, and then in particular with the hugely successful street album Coonin, based on all original beats and with the stand out tracks Coonin (the title track) and local hit Do Dat There, for both of which low budget Youtube videos would eventually emerge. In 2010 Rondoe would cement his status as one of KCMO's most consistent if not hard working rap artists, teaming up with DJ Big Baby to release compilation The Block Movement featuring all original beats and a who's who of KC music from Ron Ron and Cash Image to Irv Da Phenom and Nesto the Owner, then releasing the album Big Bizness with long time collaborator Lil Mo, before ending the year with probably his strongest and slickest production to date, the street album Authentic. Early in 2011 Rondoe continued to underline his status in KC with the commercially astute Mobbin Da Mixtape, and appearance on the remix of Nesto the Owner's Kansas City smash hit Man In My City, joining other local stars for its smartly executed nationwide-ready music video: Man In My City Remix (feat VV, The Popper, Rondoe, Xta-C, Cash Image, Bishop Youngdon Rondoe's style is characterised by an at times almost lazy sounding higher pitched drawl which flows effortlessly over beats and exudes understated sometimes cartoonish confidence even on the hardest tracks. As such his distinctive sound has been compared to Bay Area man of the moment J Stalin, who, along with The Jacka, Rondoe appropriately names as among his own favourite artists.
