There are 2 bands with the same name: 1. Puberty formed in March of 2009 after Jen Clement was taught drums by Pat Flegel of Women and formed a band with roommate Sydney Koke (Trophy Wives, Incandescence) and good friend Nicole Brunel (Friendo, Mt. Royal) based on their mutual love for Sonic Youth, Delta 5, Gang of Four, Fugazi, Big Black, the Clean, Kleenex, and the Wipers. Since their inception, Puberty have played shows with Japandroids, the Famines, King Khan & Shrines, HEALTH as well as hosted a basement show during Sled Island '09 with a few Vancouver weird punk bands: Nu Sensae, Twin Crystals and Sex Negatives. 2. New seven-member group featuring LARS FINBERG and SUSANNA WELBOURNE of THE INTELLIGENCE. The band push dueling vocals and harmonies to the forefront while mastering signature off-kilter pop melodies. Finberg and Wellbourne sing and are backed up by some Seattle ringers that include DAVE HERNANDEZ (SHINS, Intelligence) on guitar CURTIS JAMES (OLD HAUNTS) on drums, DREW CHURCH (COPS) on bass and MICHAEL JAWORSKI (Cops, Sunset Booker and Mt Fuji owner) on keyboards. The first single from Puberty is due on Toronto, Canada’s Telephone Explosion.
