About Pontoons
New York City indie band 'Pontoons' got their start in early 1991, when singer-guitarist Tom Hunt began writing songs and founded the group, which featured Tony Skutnik on bass and Christian Harper on drums. Distribution of Hunt’s home recordings helped establish a strong fan base for the band’s early shows in Manhattan at venues such as The Mercury Lounge, Continental, Brownies, and the legendary CBGBs. After a solid three years (1993-96) of playing up to eight shows a month in Manhattan, Boston, and Philadelphia the band called it quits, but not before releasing two critically acclaimed 7” singles: the first “Juncos and Robins/Back Again” in 1994, and the second “Landslide/The Other Side” in 1996, with Pamela Margid replacing Skutnik on bass. In 2010, Hunt and Harper re-formed Pontoons and began recording 12 songs for a potential full-length album. These recordings, the first in 15 years, will be released sometime in 2012.
