About Philip Whitehead

Philip Whitehead is an Orpington based musician, currently fronting Worlds Turn to Ash. Whitehead was born in Orpington in 1993 but didn't become particularly interested in music until 2009, when he became more aware of rock music. Before then his only favourite band was Gorillaz, but he later found Blur and through Guitar Hero found more harder rock music. After discovering Primus, Whitehead bought his first bass guitar from eBay at the start of 2009, for just over £50. After discovering nu metal he purchased a 5-string bass through eBay as well. In 2011 he began jamming with friend James Carty, a guitarist at his school. The pair would recruit Jamie McGuire on drums for a school music night, under the name "Metallic Death Sponge". After recruiting Ben Brazier on guitar and vocals, and replacing McGuire with Lewis Fife, this would become Against All Odds, Whitehead's first band. The band entered hiatus in April 2012 but became The Death of Music in November that year with a new lineup - the band again entered hiatus in 2014 after briefly becoming Vantablack In May 2012 Whitehead found himself in 2 new bands - first he would join Eight Days From Sunday, for whom he'd already stood in on bass guitar with earlier in the year due to Mike Lane moving to Brighton. Because of Lane's move, he was no longer able to play in the band, so Whitehead took the position permanently and recorded bass on the band's second demo, This Town Is Ours. At the same time he formed grindcore band The Grand Alternative Choir as guitarist and vocalist, after a joke on Facebook with Skegness based duo Will Stevenson and Dave Weston. The trio a single demo, Friendship, with Whitehead programming drums. While in Eight Days From Sunday he would release two extended plays, "No Idols" and "Surrounded By the Ones Who Want Me to Fail", before being fired in 2015. He then began work assembling a new project, Worlds Turn to Ash, with guitarists Ben Johnson (of Pupious) and Scott Kelly, bassist Tom Sawyer and drummer Arron Day.
