About Philip Nelson

Influenced by everything from They Might Be Giants and Duran Duran, to Jewel, Neil Diamond, and R.E.M., Nelson’s musical style can only be described as synchronized schizophrenia. His show promises to captivate and fascinate even the most discriminating crowds. Having jammed with the likes of Jon Anderson of Yes and Pat Dininzio of The Smithereens … Nelson recently recorded a single, “Racing Off to Nowhere,” with Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter, Peter Himmelman. A native of Monroe, LA and now a San Antonio, TX resident, Nelson has taken his music across the globe, from corporate conferences to off the cuff gigs. He has performed in NYC, Nashville, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Tokyo, and on the steps of the Sacré Coeur Basilica in Paris. Whether he’s performing for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas or for tips in New Orleans’ French Quarter, Nelson combines his storytelling ability and diverse musical style to create a quirky and highly entertaining repertoire, wherever he goes. A recent recipient of San Antonio Business Journal’s Forty Under Forty Award, Nelson spends his daytime hours as senior vice president of Strategic Development for NewTek, a San Antonio-based company and leading manufacturer of portable live production, video and 3D animation products. But Nelson said he’s always had a passion for music.
