About Phenoma

Phenoma, a duo founded on uncommon interests and musical aesthetics based in Asheville, North Carolina. Composed of members, Elizabeth Lang (Annadyne) and Kimathi Moore (Kimathir), Phenoma was based purely on a great love of experimental ambient music, sound design, Surrealism, Classical music, Free Jazz, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Eberhard Weber, Egberto Gismonti, Ravel and David Darling. Both artists felt that there was so much more room to express new ideas in the electronic musical field, and being that both had strong musical backgrounds already and had such a wide range of tastes it was only natural that they come together. Phenoma is indeed a surreal painting of sorts, an unsung song, a brushstroke, a personal vision in which both Elizabeth and Kima have found a voice unique, tailored to their private sensibilities. Songs can be at times carefully crafted, each sound created out of organic sounds, compositions worked out carefully to evoke certain feelings, and at other times everything is left to the spontaneity of the moment where sounds are 'plastered' on a canvas, and arranged in a purely intuitive way. While many groups in electronic music tend to be in a rush to complete a project, both Elizabeth and Kima always maintain that the creativity with Phenoma comes first.
