About Paerish

PÆRISH are a four-piece alternative rock band from Paris, France. Founding members Mathias Court (guitar/vocals) and Martin Dupraz (bass) met while studying film production at a Paris film school in 2010, with the band formally taking shape in 2013 after guitarist Frédéric Wah joined the lineup. The name Paerish is taken from Alan Parrish, Robin Williams' character in Jumanji. Their debut single "Undone" arrived in 2015 and steadily built a following before the full-length Semi Finalists dropped in December 2016. The album earned them a place on the European touring circuit alongside Sum 41, Silversun Pickups, Movements, and Moose Blood, a rare achievement for a French band operating in the alternative rock space. In late 2019 the band travelled to Studio 4 in Philadelphia to record with Grammy-nominated producer Will Yip, reportedly the first European act he had worked with. The resulting album, Fixed It All (April 2021), marked a deliberate shift toward heavier, shoegaze-influenced territory and landed them a deal with LA-based label SideOneDummy Records. The pandemic delayed its release and prevented any touring, but the record earned strong critical reception regardless. With drummer Loïc Fouquet replacing founding member Julien Louvion, the band returned to Philadelphia for a second session with Yip. Their third album, You're In Both Dreams (And You're Scared), was released August 2023, its title lifted from a line of dialogue in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive, a nod to the cinematic sensibility that has always underpinned their songwriting. Sonically, PÆRISH occupy the space where 90s alternative rock meets shoegaze and early 2000s emo. Their songs tend to trade in contrast: wiry, reverb-drenched verses opening into loud, cathartic choruses, held together by Mathias Court's smooth vocal delivery and a consistent knack for hooks. Across three albums the approach has grown darker and more atmospheric, while never losing sight of what makes a song land live. All releases are available at paerish.bandcamp.com.
