About Naffi

Naffi was one of the many monikers of an exotic post-punk/dub duo formed in Earlstown, Merseyside, UK, consisting of Brenda Kenny (a.k.a. Brenda Ray),Brenda and The BeachBalls, Brenda Beachball Ray, and Gerry Kenny (a.k.a. Sir Freddie Viadukt, The Minister of Noise). They started out as a trio Naafi Sandwich, including "Captain Catchpole". releasing a 7" on Absurd Records in 1979. This was recorded in Didsbury, Manchester. The single was later re-released under the name The Naffis in 1982. As Naffi they released 4 cassettes, one 7" single and an album called "Yum Yum Yum Yum Ya" between 1980 and 1982. Another album was released in 1985 under the name Naffi-Locksman. This was originally recorded in 1983, recorded at "Naffi Studio" and "Benson Street Studios", Liverpool. The majority of the above tracks/titles were recorded on a "Tascam 144 portastudio" high speed 4 track cassette recorder. From 1984 onwards there was an upgrade to 8 track 1" "Scully" analogue tape machine, and there were numerous productions/releases from Naffi Studio, now known as Naffi H.Q. including:- Half Man Half Biscuit "The Trumpton Riots" on Probe Plus in 1986 Jegsy Dodd & The Sons Of Harry Cross "Winebars & Werewolves" on Probe Plus in 1986
