About Mousie and the Traps

Mousie & the Traps were one of the few bright spots illuminating Toddlin' Town's initial existence. They came to Russ Vestee's attention via James Holvay, a local songwriter venerated for his gilt-edged work with the Buckinghams ("Kind Of A Drag," "Don't You Care," and "Susan" all bore his compositional imprimatur). Holvay wrote "It's All In The Way" for the Traps, a Chicago-based Hispanic girl group that specialized in material by the Supremes and Martha & the Vandellas. They're remembered only as two sisters, Mousie and Rose, and their cousin Thelma. Holvay accompanied the threesome to Chicago's Sound Recording Studio, using his soul-rock band, the Mob, for backup and installing Stu Black behind the board. Holvay handed an acetate of the proceedings to Vestee, who convinced George Leaner to issue Mousie & the Traps' only Toddlin' Town single (and a bubbly Motownish one at that) in 1965.
