About Michael Dozier

Born Into an Artistic Family Son of James Dozier, lead singer of the vocal group The Avalons, who is better known as Jimmy Dooley, Michael Dozier has pursued a career in music for over 30 years. He got his start in nightclubs with his father and, for the last ten years or so, has developed a successful career in acting and performing in musicals. Throughout the years, Michael has been inspired to write a good number of songs such as “Love, Amour, Amore” that was featured on singer Bruno Pelletier’s latest album. He has selected and recorded a dozen of his compositions that will certainly appeal to his fans who might have had the opportunity to see his performances in “Les Fous du rock and roll”, “Pianomen”, “Hit The Road Jack”, in which he played an incredibly realistic Ray Charles, and most recently, “Esquire Show Bar”, a musical revue that he co-created and that has played throughout the summer in sold-out performances at the Corona Theatre. A Great Array of Genres The music that defines him tends to be rhythm’n’blues and soul. Nevertheless, Michael explores a variety of genres on this album, whether it be funk, pop, jazz, bossa nova or blues. Michael generously offers 15 titles written between 1977 to the present day, which he sings with that warm and powerful voice that has become his trademark. From the very soulful “If I Ain’t Got You” to the title song “Here I Am”, the rousing “Free”, the inspiring “I Wanna Sing”, the amusing “Uh-oh”, the heart warming “Everything” or better yet his ballads such as “Don’t Tell Me”, “Whatever you Want”, “I Do” and “Sad Your Eyes Were”, Michael Dozier sings about life, love, freedom and the joy of life with an extra helping of soul. The artist also performs two duets: “No Secrets”, in which he sings along with the very talented Kim Richardson, and the very moving “Father oh Father”, which he sings with his father. In addition to these 12 original English-language titles, Michael decided to record three classics, which he has had the opportunity of performing on stage many times over, one of which is Gil Scott-Heron’s great success, “The Bottle”, driven by Jim Zeller’s harmonica, a very personal version of “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” and a very simple but touching version of “Alone Again (Naturally)”, the closing title of the album. Experienced Collaborators To produce “Here I Am” Michael, an accomplished musician who plays guitar, keyboards and djembé on the album, has surrounded himself with solid collaborators the likes of Stéphane Deschamps (guitar, keyboards), Roger Mann (electric guitar, banjo, vocals), Marco Tessier (keyboards), Orson Clarke (bass), Jim Hillman (drums), Jim Zeller (harmonica), Eric Khayat (saxophone), David Robitaille (trumpet), Marc Fortin (trombone) and the vocals of Kim Richardson, Andrew Leader, Franck Julien, Sharon Brooks, Coco Thompson, James Dozier, Skipper Dean, Brigitte Désy, Vanessa Dozier and Réjean DeGrandmaison. Released on the Isba Music label, “Here I Am” (ISB-CD 5116) was produced by Michael Dozier and recorded by Réjean DeGrandmaison and Stéphane DesChamps.
