McGazz

About McGazz

McGazz is a Scottish-born singer, songwriter and electronic musician, originally from Glasgow, Scotland, but now based in Liverpool, England. In a previous life, he organised gigs and records in Glasgow, as well as being the singer in obscure Glaswegian band My Legendary Girlfriend, whose biggest achievement was supporting The Fall once. McGazz started to record music of his own in 2003, with a range of influences, mostly electronic. First CD "Untipped" was a lo-tech affair, combining songs, instrumentals, spoken word pieces (some set to music) and the odd weird private joke. 2004's "BBC Hip Hop" is much more consistent, the title describing the clunky, eighties-influenced sound of some of the tracks. In December of that year, he followed this with the seven-song, mp3-only, "Nurse", which had a darker and more adult, sophisticated feel. In 2006 he released "Don't Be An Asshole, Dustin" which, although good in parts, gained more praise for the quality of the recording than for the actual music. "...part early Human League, part later Human League and part all the bands that cite Human League as their major influence...leaves you thinking how Kraftwerk could have been if only they'd spent their lives on the dole watching Ceefax through the night". [Robots & Electronic Brains] "McGazz delivers some engaging electro which stands out from an overcrowded market for bedsit synth-driven tunes...a lot of fun". [Is This Music? magazine] "...infectious synth-fuelled tracks..." [The List] "Old-skool sparsity techno and primitive electro-pop at it's very best". [Vanity Project fanzine]
