About Masque of Death
The story of Masque of Death began in 2008, when Sofía Ruiz (Guitarist, vocalist) and Abel Ramos (Drummer) who attended the same University and had previously played together in several bands, decided to start up a metal project. After trying out a few candidates for the lead guitar role, they came across Carlos de Arquer and he was a perfect fit. He soon started to songwrite with Sofia, aiming to achieve an unique sound that would reveal the elegance and art that lie in metal. The following year was tough for the band, as they struggled to combine their college education with weekly practices and writing new songs. In late 2009 Masque of Death record their first E.P. Ivory Cities and in early 2010 they make it available to everyone through digital and physical distribution. Ivory Cities receives a great response from fans and also from critics and webzines, obtaining a 90/100 overall rating in Femme Metal's review, where it’s stated that Masque of Death "combine pounding metal rhythms, great riffs and solos with the self-assured vocal prowess of Sofía Ruiz to create a solid piece of work". Soon after the release of Ivory Cities, the band goes through a deep restructuring process, resulting in a whole new line-up, with Sofía and Carlos still fronting the band, but with new drummer Rodrigo Ruiz and new bassist Jorge Murillo joining Masque of Death.
