About Luis David Aguilar
Luis is a conductor and violist from the Venezuelan music project called “El Sistema” with a Music Degree from the Arts National Experimental University in Caracas. In 2001 he joined the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and was the principal violist from 2005 to 2011. During his membership in this orchestra, he participated in international tours, concerts, and recordings with conductors and soloists like Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, Juan Diego Florez, Luciano Pavarotti, Bryn Terfel, Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Yo-Yo Ma, and Gustavo Dudamel. He has performed chamber music recitals with Jonathan Cohler, Kalman Berkes, Adalbert Skocic, and Klaus Thunemann. With the Caracas String Quartet, in 2009 he attended a chamber music course with Rainer Schmidt, violinist of the Hagen String Quartet. José Antonio Abreu and Teresa Hernández were his firsts mentors in orchestral conducting, besides the participation in two conducting masterclasses with Dick van Gasteren. In recent years, he conducted prestigious groups like the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, the Teresa Carreño Symphony Orchestra, the Simón Bolívar Choir, the Children's Choir of Venezuela, and the Teresa Carreño Ballet Company. Besides his musical achievements, the last two years he undertook the coordination of string sections of the Venezuelan Orchestral Program were he developed different strategies aimed to improve the growth of young and children orchestras of all the country. Currently, Luis studies for an M.M. in Orchestral Conducting at FIU under the guidance of Dr. Javier Mendoza and holds the position of Assistant Conductor of the FIU Symphony Orchestra.
