About Jesus Chrysler

There are at least two bands known as Jesus Chrysler. A political post punk band from Tennessee (1), The other a rock band from Minnesota(2), (1) Below is about the Jesus Chrysler band from TN. http://www.myspace.com/theoriginaljesuschrysler EP: "Turn or Burn" 1987 Second Coming Records LP: " This Year's Savior" 1988 Toxic Shock Records Jesus Chrysler's LP "This Year's Savior" can now be found on iTunes. http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/this-years-saviour/id383544920 Jesus Chrysler TN is Simon Rowcliff (vocals; Brett Hammond (guitars), Danny Myers(Bass) and Chris Shirley(Drums). A band hailing from the same town that built the A-bomb(Oak Ridge,Tennessee) (Just outside of Knoxville). The band had its beginnings on a short summer stay in Atlanta in 1986 under the name "Plum-Loco". But after a drummer change, welcoming Shirley on drums and a move back home, the band officially formed "Jesus Chrysler" in early 1987. The band recorded their first 4 song EP "Turn or Burn" under their own label, Second Coming Records which got the attention of Maximum Rock-n-Roll and London's BBC, John Peel to name a few. The band signed on with Toxic Shock Records and released the LP, "This Year's Savior". The bands political/social tone brought to focus the negative influence of the church and state love nest of the late 80's Bush/Reagan/Baker/Swaggart era. The group toured all over the U.S/Canada on major tours along side "House of Large Sizes" and The Hickoids". ----- Billy of Dillinger Four reviews Jesus Chrysler's "Turn Or Burn" EP: 7-Inch Corner – Fest 7 Edition: Billy Morrisette From Dillinger Four On Jesus Chrysler’s “Turn Or Burn” Posted on 14 October 2008 by Matthew "I gotta go with the Jesus Chrysler “Turn Or Burn” 7-inch. As a young dude getting into the scene in the late 80’s, my introduction was The Ramones, The Descendents, Angry Samoans and the like. While thinking about this list, I had a lot of contenders like The A.G.’s “Bryans Song” 7-inch, The Beltones “My Old Man” 7-inch and newer stuff like The Hidden Spots (Mike Pack has the best voice in punk.) However, Jesus Chrysler had all the fun, catchy vibe as the A.G.’s plus [a] political slant that wasn’t as heavy handed as the Dead Kennedys. In the time frame of that record release, it wasn’t all that common to hear a jam that stuck in your head yet had some lyrical weight. A quick listen to “I Wanna Be,” however, seems to solidify the worlds of a catchy jam and a band ranting about a better future. Kickass! While their followup LP didn’t really have the power of the 7-inch, the “Turn Or Burn” record still kicks ass." source: http://www.latenightwallflower.com/site/2008/10/14/7-inch-corner-fest-7-edition-billy-morrisette-from-dillinger-four-on-jesus-chryslers-turn-or-burn/#comments ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mike Watt featured Jesus Chrysler on his Watt from Pedro show in a live broadcast from London in 2007. http://twfps.com/pages/show.php?sid=137 From Metro Pulse, Knoxville,TN: Jesus Chrysler This Year's Savior (Toxic Shock Records) People seem to have forgotten this period, but in the first era of post hardcore, most American punks grew their hair out and took the more profitable speed metal route. That's why Jesus Chrysler's retro punk leanings were considered a bit strange in the late '80s. The band predated Rancid and Green Day by making perfect replicas of The Clash and The Buzzcocks long before the old punk sound got popular again. And their lead singer was really from England, so the English accent wasn't a pose. -John Sewell (2) http://www.myspace.com/jesuschrysler https://www.facebook.com/pages/edit/?id=6341304791&sk=basic#!/pages/Jesus-Chrysler/6341304791 Jesus Chrysler MN is Bakko(Vocals Guitar); Treble(Lead Gtr); Shores(Bass) and Duffy(Drums) Called Bong Metal by Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles, the Minnesota Jesus Chrysler has (as of January 2010) released 4 albums since 1998. Ride, Intake, Burn Out and IV: Backfire. They are expected to produce a 5th album titled Make Bold Statements... Deny It All Later late 2011/early 2012. They worked with Kelly Keagy of Night Ranger for their first CD Ride. They went on to realease their first three CD's as a trilogy. In 2009 Bakko and Treble reunited briefly with Shaggz for IV: Backfire. This would be more aptly called a side project. It was recorded over 3 days and wasn't ever planned as Shaggz returning to Jesus Chrysler. Even the inside of the CD notes it's just old friends drinking and jamming. Which also explains why it's mainly covers. This accounts for the majority of “Jesus Chrysler” songs listed on Last.fm
