About Huggybear

Huggybear (b 1982, Philadelphia, PA) is a rapper who is not interested in the hip-hop culture, instead only by the music and the unique storytelling abilities of rappers such as Notorious B.I.G. and Nas. Growing up Huggybear only listened to rock music, especially of the classic rock variety. It wasn't until he attended college that he began to enjoy and appreciate rap and hip-hop music. Huggybear debuted in 2004, teaming up with Tonka (b 1982, Queens, NY) to form Monstaz Inc. The two met while attending the Pennsylvania State University where they recorded their debut album, 'Turning a Prophet'. It showed much promise and was received well, inspiring Huggybear to continue exploring his interest in hip-hop. Later in 2004, Huggybear teamed up with Yungmid (b 1983, Philadelphia, PA) to release Yungmid & Huggybear's 'Po But Tryin'. This short and sweet EP was surrounded by much controversy and was almost never released due to the many issues incurred throughout production. Huggybear began working on new material in late 2004 and started working with producer/rapper RC (b 1982, Philadelphia, PA) on a solo project in late 2005. This latest album, Huggybear and Friends, was completed in 2007 however it wasn't released until April, 2009 due to record label disputes.
