About Helen Rae
Helen Rae is a Pop/Electronic singer from Brisbane, QLD, Australia. Helen Rae was born in Brisbane, Australia and began singing and playing music as a young child. “We had an electric organ at home and I started lessons when I was seven…when I was 12, my grandfather bought me a beautifully restored Wertheim piano and that’s where I spent most of my free time…singing and writing songs at the piano!” After graduating from high school, Helen Rae was accepted into the Qld Conservatorium where she studied voice and piano. She performed as a member of the Conservatorium Singers, Cantilena Singers and smaller ensemble groups. “Before the ‘Con’ I had always enjoyed singing and writing popular songs but this sort of went by the wayside as I began to focus on opera and classical singing.” In her final year at the ‘Con’ Helen performed the leading role of Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof. After graduating from the ‘Con’, Helen worked as a Music Teacher whilst continuing to perform and teach singing privately. She understudied and performed the role of Rapunzel in the Moonlight Theatre Company production of Sondheim’s Into the Woods and also performed as a member of the Opera Queensland chorus in an outdoor production of AIDA at the ANZ stadium. After taking a “break” to raise her young family, Helen Rae began focusing her energies on song writing again – “I feel like I have experienced so much in my life and that I need to express and share with others in a creative way…” In 2009, Helen teamed up with good friend and composer/producer Karl Schaal to record her new songs and arrangements. “We’ve been working together for almost a year now and I think the songs are coming together and I feel content and privileged to have the opportunity to go through this process and achieve my goals. Helen Rae has recently released her debut EP You’re the one! The EP was recorded in January 2012 at The Grove Studios in Sydney. “I was contacted by Thom William (andymak music) who introduced me to music producer & artist manager Andy Mak. I was immediately impressed by Andy’s knowledge, passion and professional experience and signed on to record a five track EP. Working with Andy and the creative team at The Grove was a fabulous experience and I think the end result is amazing!”
