About Hattifatteners

Hattifatteners (aka Mistland Prattlers) was a new age instrumental music project created by Russian composer Lex Plotnikoff (1977-2022, leader of Mechanical Poet). It is based on Tove Jansson's "Moomin Troll" fantasy book series. The only album, Stories Fom the Clay Shore, is divided in four parts, each corresponding to a particular season and a particluar Moomin book: Comet in Moominland (spring), The Magician's Hat (summer), The Exploits of Moominpappa (autumn) and Moominland Midwinter (winter). The album is accompanied by photographs of clay sculptures (hence the name) of Moomins and their world, made by Tisha Razumovsky. Hattifatteners was first released in 2010. However, following a "cease and desist" letter from Moomin owners, the album was pulled back. It was reissued in 2015 as Mistland Prattlers, with altered song names and all references to Moomins removed. The new version followed a completely original story concept, as well as new sculptures and some additional music.
