About Happy The Clown

Happy The Clown strive to make hypnotic music that they describe as "free-form freakout", although "heavy shoegaze-and-psychedelic-inflected post-punk" may be a relevant assessment as well. Comprised by bassist Stephen "Happy" Muccini, guitarist Al "Alfa" Nahabedian and Spike on keyboards, the Boston MA-area band began in 1988 following the breakup of Steve and Al's punk band Jetset. Taking their name from a toy clown that Al won in a carnival, the new band found the boys treading into more repetitive and trance-inducing dark-rock waters. Happy The Clown's performances often feature projections of Super 8 films that the band created and spliced together themselves. Releases thus far include Inner Sanctions (1993), Larvae (1995), Lincoln (1996), Afterlife (1996), Trim the Tree (1997), Sicka da Bullshit (1998), Cicada (1999), and Collections (2001).
