About Hackberry Garage
Hackberry Gagrage evolved from previous unfocused projects of its founding member, David S around 2009-2010. It quickly became something more serious than previous work. It is hard to pin down the exact style of the band, although "singer/songwriter" could be applied to a lot of the work. The project is primarily David S, born in the big state of Texas where he began recording home demos and putting them up on the internet under various names. In 2005 he moved to Florida and after a short time into what was usually referred to as "Hackberry", a house on the corner of a street of that name. Living in the garage there he started to make music on a roomate's computer, once again using various names but always having the name Hackberry Garage in the back of his mind. It was not until years after moving out of that house that he decided it was time to focus more seriously on music and that the only name that could come under would be Hackberry Garage. The sound of Hackberry Garage has varying influences, on a spectrum reaching from the ethereal singer/songwriter sounds of Judee Sill to the clanging avantrock of This Heat. Other notable and noticeable influences are The Mountain Goats (songwriting) and My Bloody Valentine (textures). In general, there are few styles or genres of music which this artist won't employ.
