About Gregory Whitehead

Gregory Whitehead is the writer and director of over one hundred radio adventures, plays and documentary essays, and a veteran performer of diverse schizophonica and sound poems. His programs have received the Prix Italia, the Prix Futura/BBC Award and a Sony Gold Academy Award, and have been broadcast throughout Europe, Australia and North America. Whitehead also writes for live performance, and is a producer of the annual Ten Minutes in the Berkshires festival, held at Mixed Company theater in Great Barrington, MA. Recent collaborations with Allen S. Weiss and Mark Sussman have led him into the world of toy and puppet theaters, resulting in Song For A Headless Apache, the first in a series of toy theater excursions into the darker zones of American history. The author of numerous essays that navigate the slipstreams of American politics, electronic media and celebrity culture, Whitehead also presents frequent lectures and master classes at conferences and colleges, and is the co-editor of WIRELESS IMAGINATION: sound, radio and the avant-garde (MIT Press).
